Engineering

DESIGN IT. BUILD IT. TEST IT. MAKE IT BETTER.

Engineering is a hands-on, project-based program where students use the engineering design process to solve real-world problems. Students develop skills in engineering design, CAD modeling, prototyping, materials science, robotics, electronics, and civil engineering while applying math, science, and technology to turn ideas into working solutions.

INDUSTRY CREDENTIAL

Autodesk Fusion 360 Associate Certification

Students develop skills using industry-standard Autodesk Fusion 360 software and prepare for the program's primary industry-recognized credential.

COLLEGE CREDIT

Up to 9 college credits

CCV MEC-1330 – Fundamentals of Engineering and Design — 3 credits
RIT PLTW Introduction to Engineering Design — 3 credits
RIT PLTW Principles of Engineering — 3 credits

HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT

4 Engineering elective credits

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

Engineering students learn by tackling design challenges, developing solutions, building prototypes, and testing and improving their work.

ENGINEERING DESIGN & FABRICATION

  • Engineering design process
  • CAD modeling and Autodesk Fusion 360
  • Prototyping and digital fabrication
  • Materials and materials testing
  • Technical documentation
  • Design analysis and refinement

TECHNOLOGY & PROBLEM-SOLVING

  • Robotics and automation
  • Electronics and microcontrollers
  • Civil engineering concepts
  • Applied math and science
  • Programming and digital tools
  • Real-world problem-solving

SKILLS FOR THE WORKPLACE

Engineering is built around solving problems that don't always have an obvious answer. Students learn to analyze challenges, develop and communicate ideas, build and test solutions, document their work, respond to results, and improve their designs. Collaboration, precision, communication, and persistence are developed alongside technical skills.

IS ENGINEERING A GOOD FIT FOR YOU?

Engineering may be a good fit for students who enjoy figuring out how things work, solving challenging problems, designing and building, and using technology to turn ideas into real solutions.

Students should be prepared to:

  • Bring prior experience with laboratory science
  • Apply algebra and geometry
  • Participate in college-preparatory coursework
  • Read and work with material at approximately a 10th–12th grade level
  • Collaborate and work effectively as part of a team
  • Work through complex problems and iterative design challenges
  • Lift up to 40 pounds when working with projects and equipment

WHERE CAN ENGINEERING ARTS TAKE YOU?

EXPLORE ENGINEERING CAREERS

Build foundational skills connected to mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering, automation and robotics, advanced manufacturing, and engineering technology.

CONTINUE YOUR EDUCATION

Earn college credit while developing the math, science, design, and technical skills needed for postsecondary engineering and STEM programs.

DESIGN & CREATE
