SKILLS FOR THE WORKPLACE
HVAC technicians need to understand how mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and control systems work together. Students develop the ability to diagnose problems, interpret technical information, use specialized tools and test equipment, work safely, and solve problems systematically.
The program combines technical instruction with the applied math, measurement, thermodynamics, and technical reading used in the HVAC industry.
IS HVAC A GOOD FIT FOR YOU?
Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning may be a good fit for students who enjoy understanding how things work, solving mechanical problems, working with tools, and learning through hands-on technical work.
Students should be prepared to:
- Use basic algebra
- Apply concepts from laboratory science
- Read and interpret technical material at approximately an 11th–12th-grade level
- Perform physical work on a daily basis
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Use fine and gross motor skills
- Work comfortably around power tools and loud equipment
- Climb ladders up to 10 feet
- Collaborate effectively with peers
